Create Hero photography for the Sonos PLAYBASE packaging before a fully finished prototype is available.
Photograph 3D printed prototypes and develop a method to marry photography and retouching capabilities that will allow creation of product images that will seamlessly fit into the aesthetic for existing product packaging.
For the Sonos PLAYBASE packaging images we worked closely with lead retouchers at Splash to develop a systematic approach to photographing rough 3D printed prototypes of the PLAYBASE and make them look like flawless speakers that just came out of the factory. We needed to photograph both a white and black speaker in multiple angles to fit into the existing Sonos lineup. This was also challenging because the PLAYBASE packaging was designed to sit on the shelf differently than any other Sonos product. We worked through angle exploration to showcase the technology as well as the clean design of the speaker. Once that was established, we photographed the parts of the speaker that were most correct in the sample, sometimes using 2 or 3 different prototypes that we meticulously lined up to appear as one piece.
The images were treated with Sonos' psychedelic color wash and they seamlessly fit into the product line when the packaging hit the shelves.
